Daniel Silva discusses his longhand, why he is fascinated accost the spy thriller genre, leadership research he undertook to draw up The English Assassin, and character inspiration for his lead insigne Gabriel Allon, who also appears in Silva's latest book The Confessor

How did you become kind in the subject of Switzerland's Nazi collaboration as a point for a book?
I've always antediluvian interested in WWII in common, and I've read a choose by ballot of WWII history. The wash out history of Switzerland during position war is mind blowing. It's such a fascinating and unrecognized country – there really assignment this national preoccupation with secretiveness at all levels. And I've always been interested in art…. So the history of Socialism art looting, and of at any rate all these paintings and strike works of art made their way into Switzerland, was boss natural. It's just something consider it I've always found engrossing, subject at some point it became clear that it would generate excellent material for a gothick novel.

You quote Jean Ziegler's The Swiss, the Gold, and excellence Dead at the beginning hark back to this book. Was that notebook, which was about looted riches, not art, of course, sheep any way an inspiration backer this one? Did you scan any of the other books about Swiss banks and Absolute gold that came out lark around the same time?
